History
“What’s in a name?“ The land that now comprises Carriage House Farms was originally owned by a prominent Kansas City Chevrolet dealer, who, for years, maintained a large swath of farmland known as Wilmar Ranch, located north of Kansas City, Missouri where John grew up.
One of those parcels was a privately owned, Percheron horse facility, which specialized in the breeding, raising, and showing of champion carriage horses. For years we would watch these magnificent, gentle giants in the fields across from where we live. Over time this land was also parceled out.
Then, one day in early 2015, we discovered that the remaining land and horse facilities were to be sold, and that a developer was eyeing the land for a subdivision. After much negotiation, and sleepless nights, we were fortunate enough to be able to acquire this beautiful property.
Next came the dilemma of finding a suitable name for the farm, which was no small task. We finally decided to base the name on the history of the land the farm is situated on. So, originally belonging to a car dealer (or purveyor of the “horseless carriage,” if you will), then as a carriage horse farm, and then, with the connection to John’s own family’s association with the automotive industry, we thought that Carriage House Farms was the perfect choice.
As the grateful owners of this farm, we are built on honest business practices, a strong work ethic, and the knowledge of how blessed we are to be the caretakers of this lovely property, whose beauty will now be preserved under our care.
